Which ticket to buy
Caserta is two visits in one: the palace, with its Royal Apartments, and the Royal Park, about 3 km of fountains and pools along the Via d'Acqua with the English Garden at the far end. Pick your ticket according to how much daylight you have.
- Royal Apartments + Royal Park & English Garden, €18. The standard choice, and it only pays off if you arrive in the morning, because the park closes earlier than the palace.
- Royal Park & English Garden, €9. For the gardens and fountains only.
- Royal Apartments, €12. Only sold when the Park or English Garden is closed.
- Royal Apartments evening ticket, €5. Valid only from 5pm. The best-value option if you arrive late and only want the palace interiors.
- Royal Park without the English Garden, €3. Sold only at the ticket office once the Garden has closed.
The €2 reduced ticket is limited to citizens of the EU, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein aged 18 to 24, with ID. US, UK, Canadian or Australian visitors over 18 pay full price. Under-18s are free, with ID. Leaving and re-entering on the same ticket is not allowed.
TicketOne, the ticket office or a tour?
The palace states that TicketOne is its only authorised online seller and that it takes no responsibility for tickets bought elsewhere. On TicketOne you pay a €1 fee, choose an entry time to the complex and must stick to it. Tickets are non-refundable and can't be changed.
You don't have to book: the ticket offices on Piazza Carlo di Borbone and Corso Giannone sell on the day. Booking ahead makes sense on Italian public holidays, long weekends and in school-trip season.
Tiqets and GetYourGuide mainly sell guided tours, audio guides and packages with the train from Naples or Rome. A guide earns their fee here. The Royal Apartments are a long enfilade of grand rooms, and without someone explaining who lived there it turns into a parade of chandeliers. Before you pay, check exactly what a product covers: palace, park, English Garden or only some of them.
Hours and the first Sunday
Closed on Tuesdays, 1 January and 25 December. The Royal Apartments open 8:30am–7:15pm, last entry 6:15pm. The Park (Old Wood and Via d'Acqua) and the English Garden have different hours each month and close well before the palace, so check the monthly table on the official site before buying the full ticket.
On the first Sunday of the month entry is free, but the English Garden, the Vanvitelli and Amelio rooms, the Gran Galleria and the Court Theatre are closed. Free tickets are capped: they appear on TicketOne at 11am on the Monday before, and the rest are handed out at the ticket office.
Getting there and getting round the park
Caserta station is directly opposite the palace. Take a train from Napoli Centrale, exit on the Piazza Carlo di Borbone side and walk across the square. Some high-speed trains from Rome stop at Caserta too, which makes it a feasible day trip without changing in Naples.
The park is long. The Via d'Acqua alone is about 3 km, and you have to walk back. Options include a shuttle along the Via d'Acqua (wheelchair-accessible), golf carts and bike hire at the park entrance on the palace side. Bikes can only enter and leave through the Corso Giannone gate. The palace suggests 2.5 hours for the apartments and 4 hours for the park and garden. With one day, arrive at opening time and keep an eye on the last entry for the Park and English Garden, which comes hours before the palace's.
