Who they are, how tickets and refunds work, when to use them and when not to

Tiqets is a Dutch reseller of museum and attraction tickets: you pay online and show a ticket on your phone. It is legit in the sense that the ticket arrives and works. What you must check before paying is the cancellation policy of that specific product, because it changes from ticket to ticket.

Who Tiqets is

Tiqets International B.V. is based in Amsterdam. It does not run any museum: it sits between you and the supplier (the museum, the ticketing concessionaire or a tour operator) and calls itself a "middleman". In Italy it mostly sells entry tickets, entry plus audio guide, guided tours, combos and transport such as the Leonardo Express and Malpensa Express.

You can buy without an account. Prices are shown per ticket and per person including applicable taxes; Tiqets notes that a supplier sometimes charges a local tax separately.

How the ticket works

After payment you get an email with your voucher. Most attractions accept it on your phone; if a printout is needed, the product page says so at the top. Entry instructions sit in the "Instructions" section of the product and on the voucher. Read them: they tell you whether to go to a specific desk or lane.

"Skip the line" on Tiqets often means a timed entry that you show at a dedicated desk or lane. It means a shorter queue, not necessarily no wait at all.

If the supplier cannot deliver your ticket straight away, it has 48 hours to do so through Tiqets; otherwise you get a full refund.

Cancellations and refunds

This is where a good purchase and a bad one part ways.

Basic rule: cancellation is only possible if the product description says so. The EU online withdrawal period does not apply to leisure services booked for a specific date.
Free cancellation: some products offer it as an option. With it, you can cancel until 23:59 the day before your visit, in the app or with the Manage booking button in the email.
Without it: the attraction's own policy applies, shown on the product page. A real example: a Colosseum and Roman Forum entry with audio guide states it is non-refundable.
Timing: card refunds take five to ten working days after approval. Cancellation costs may apply and are communicated individually.
Deadline: refunds can be requested until 28 days after the date the ticket is valid for.

The Colosseum fine

In April 2025 Italy's competition authority (AGCM) fined CoopCulture and six tour operators, Tiqets International BV among them, almost 20 million euro in total. The authority found that the operators had bought Colosseum tickets with bots and automated tools, helping base-price tickets sell out on the official site. Official Colosseum tickets are now named for every ticket type. Worth knowing: it explains why plain tickets used to vanish while bundles with extras did not.

When to use it and when not to

Buy on the official site if your date is available and you do not need flexibility: for the same entry, the official price is almost always lower.

Tiqets makes sense when:

the official site is sold out for your date;
you want a free-cancellation product instead of a non-refundable official ticket;
you want a combo (entry plus audio guide or tour) or an airport train ticket on your phone;
you prefer all your trip's tickets in one app.

FAQ

Is Tiqets legit?

Yes, it is a registered Dutch company (Tiqets International B.V., Amsterdam) selling on behalf of suppliers. If a supplier cannot issue your ticket within 48 hours, your order is refunded in full. In 2025 Italy's competition authority fined it for buying Colosseum tickets with bots.

Can I cancel a Tiqets ticket?

Only if the product page says so. With the free-cancellation option you can cancel until 23:59 the day before your visit, in the app or via Manage booking in the confirmation email. Many tickets, including some Colosseum ones, are non-refundable.

How long do Tiqets refunds take?

Once approved, card refunds take five to ten working days to reach your account. Tiqets warns that cancellation costs may apply and are communicated case by case.

Do I need to print my Tiqets ticket?

Usually not: most attractions only need the ticket on your smartphone. If a printout is required, it says so at the top of the attraction page.

Is Tiqets cheaper than the official site?

For the same plain entry ticket, usually not. Tiqets is worth it when the official site is sold out, when you want a free-cancellation option, or for a combo with an audio guide or tour.
