Who they are, how cancellations and refunds work, what Headout credits are, when to pick it

Headout is a US-based marketplace for tickets and experiences: you buy from the supplier and Headout facilitates the purchase and payment. In Italy it is useful mainly for a handful of tickets in Rome, Florence and Sicily. The rule to remember: unless the product page offers cancellation, a completed booking cannot be cancelled with a refund.

Who Headout is

Headout Inc. is a Delaware company headquartered in New York. Its terms are clear about its role: Headout is not a travel agency and does not run the experiences. When you book, you buy directly from the supplier; Headout runs the platform and facilitates the purchase and payment. After paying you get a confirmation email with a voucher or ticket.

One practical side effect: Headout does not issue tax invoices for bookings, only a payment receipt on written request. If you need a proper invoice for business travel, keep that in mind.

Cancellations and refunds

Every product has its own rule, shown on the experience page. Headout displays it, but the supplier sets it.
Default rule: a completed booking cannot be changed or cancelled with a refund unless the listing or the supplier's terms say otherwise. That is stricter than GetYourGuide's default, so always read the cancellation line.
Free cancellation: Headout promises it, along with pay-later, for "eligible experiences". Eligible means: not all of them.
Timing: Headout refunds only after it receives the money from the supplier, and then aims to start the refund within seven days.
Promo codes: if you booked with a promo code or a special-offer price and then change or cancel, the discount may be lost and the refund recalculated.
Once it starts: no refunds after the experience has begun.

Headout credits

Headout credits can only be spent on future Headout bookings; they are non-transferable and cannot be cashed out. By default refunds go back to your original payment method; you can opt for credits only if that method is not available. If support offers credits instead of money, think about whether you will really book with Headout again.

Fees and currency

Headout lets you pick the display currency next to the language at the top of the site. Its terms warn that your bank may add foreign transaction or currency conversion fees, so the amount charged can differ from the listed price. For Italian tickets, set the currency to euro and pay with a card that has no foreign transaction fee.

The Colosseum fine

Headout is not among the six operators fined by Italy's competition authority in April 2025 for buying Colosseum tickets with bots (Tiqets, GetYourGuide, Walks, Italy With Family, City Wonders and Musement, plus the former official seller CoopCulture).

When to use it

On this site Headout goes first only where it is unique or clearly competitive: some Rome and Vatican tickets, the Medici Chapels in Florence, Monreale in Sicily, combos such as Villa d'Este with Hadrian's Villa. Elsewhere it comes after Tiqets and GetYourGuide.

Use it when the product you want is only there or comes with better terms, such as free cancellation on a ticket that is non-refundable elsewhere. Skip it if you need flexibility and that product does not offer it: under the default rule there is no refund.
