Italy city passes compared

Official prices, validity and what each card really covers · Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Turin, Verona, Milan

A city pass only pays off if you visit enough paid sights and ride enough public transport while it is valid. None of them covers everything: the Roma Pass does not include the Vatican Museums or the Leonardo Express, and the Colosseum and Galleria Borghese still need a reservation even with the card.

Italy city passes compared

How Italian city passes work

Count the sights you actually want to see, not the length of the circuit list. Italian passes come in three types, and it helps to know which one you are looking at:

A pass is also not a reservation. In Rome you still book a time slot for the Colosseum and the Galleria Borghese, and in Turin entries booked with the card depend on availability. On free first Sundays a pass is useless in state museums because everyone gets in free.

Rome: Roma Pass or Omnia

The Roma Pass is promoted by the city of Rome and is the simpler choice. Activate it when you start moving around: transport runs for 72 hours, museums for 4 days. At the Colosseum it does not replace the booking. A full ticket costs 18,00 €, with the Roma Pass as a discount it is 11,50 €, but the arena floor, the underground and the Belvedere are excluded, and you still reserve a time slot online. Book that slot before you fly; the card can be bought later.

The Omnia bundles a Roma Pass with an OMNIA Card for Vatican City attractions and the hop-on hop-off bus. It only makes sense if you will use all three parts within three days. The site carries the Go City brand, not the city's. Non-activated passes can be refunded within 14 days of purchase.

Florence, Venice, Naples

Firenzecard: one entry per museum in 72 hours. The Duomo, Brunelleschi's Dome and Giotto's Bell Tower are sold separately by the cathedral works (Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore).

Venice: for the Doge's Palace, the Musei di Piazza San Marco ticket is 35,00 € standard and 30,00 € online if you buy more than 30 days ahead. The Museum Pass at 50,00 € adds the other civic museums and lasts 6 months. Vaporetto tickets are separate.

Campania Artecard: pick by where you sleep. Napoli 3 days if you stay in the city, Campania 3 days if you add Pompeii or Caserta. The Alibus airport shuttle does not accept Artecard passes, so buy that ticket separately.

Turin, Verona, Milan

The Torino+Piemonte Card covers the Egyptian Museum, and a child under 12 gets in free with you. GTT public transport is not included: only at the Turin tourist office can you add a 48-hour ticket for 7,00 € or a 72-hour one for 9,00 €.

The Verona Card has no reduced price. Bought on Tiqets, GetYourGuide or Headout it arrives as a voucher that you swap for the physical card at the IAT tourist office before first use.

The MilanoCard is a private product (Tourist Point Srl): city transport, a taxi credit and discounts. You still buy your own tickets for the Last Supper and the Duomo.

FAQ

How much is the Roma Pass and what does it include?

The Roma Pass 72 Hours costs 62,90 € on the official help centre: 2 free entries, 72 hours of public transport and 4 days for museums. The 48-hour version costs 38,00 € with 1 free entry, 48 hours of transport and 3 days for museums.

Does the Roma Pass include the Vatican Museums?

No. The Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel are not part of the Roma Pass circuit. The Omnia Rome and Vatican Pass bundles a Roma Pass with Vatican entry, or you buy the Vatican ticket separately.

Can I use the Roma Pass on the train from Fiumicino airport?

No. The Leonardo Express and the FL1 train to Fiumicino are excluded. From Ciampino, the ATAC buses 720 and 520 to the metro are covered.

Is the Firenze Card worth it?

It costs 85 € for 72 hours from first use, with one entry to each museum in the circuit. It pays off if you see two or more museums a day; for just the Uffizi and the Accademia, compare the two single tickets first.

Which Turin pass includes the Egyptian Museum?

The Torino+Piemonte Card: the Museo Egizio, the Cinema Museum in the Mole and the Venaria Royal Palace are all in the circuit. The 24-hour card is limited to three free entries.

Does the Verona Card include the Arena?

Yes, with fast entry, plus city buses. It costs 33,00 € for 24 hours and 38,00 € for 48 hours. The airport bus (Aerobus) and the funicular are not included.

Do I need a pass on free museum Sundays?

No. On the first Sunday of the month state museums are free for everyone, so the pass saves nothing; the Artecard also warns that it gives no skip-the-line access on those days.
