Roma Pass, Omnia Card and Rome city passes
Rome's official city card and the alternatives · official prices
The Roma Pass 72 hours costs €62.90 and gives you 2 free entries to museums and sites in its network, reduced entry to the rest and 72 hours of buses, trams and metro; the 48-hour version is €38 with one free entry. It does not include the Vatican Museums or the airport train from Fiumicino, and you still have to book a time slot at the Colosseum and the Borghese Gallery. It pays off if you'll ride public transport and spend the free entries on expensive tickets.

What you get
The Roma Pass is the city card run by Roma Capitale, the city government. It comes in two versions:
- 72 hours, €62.90. Two free entries to museums and archaeological sites in the network, then the reduced price at the others, all within 4 days of first activation. Unlimited public transport for 72 hours.
- 48 hours, €38. One free entry, reduced prices for 3 days, 48 hours of transport.
Transport means ATAC buses, trams, metro lines A, B, B1 and C, and the Roma-Lido, Roma-Viterbo and Roma-Giardinetti railways within city limits, plus buses 720 and 520 to and from Ciampino airport. It also covers the P.Stop network of staffed public toilets, which you'll appreciate more than you expect.
You can use reduced entries before the free ones; the free entries don't have to be the first sites you visit. If the museum has an exhibition on, it's usually included, except for the separately ticketed exhibition spaces at the Ara Pacis, Palazzo Braschi and Villa Caffarelli.
Buy it on romapass.it or in the Roma Pass app (it lives on your phone as a QR code), or as a physical card at the city's Tourist Infopoints. It's personal: carry ID, because ticket inspectors can ask for both.
What it doesn't cover
- The Vatican. The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are a separate state with separate tickets. No Roma Pass discount.
- Fiumicino airport. The Leonardo Express, the FL1 train and airport coaches are excluded. Budget for your arrival and departure separately.
- Bookings. The Colosseum (with the Forum and Palatine) and the Borghese Gallery need a reserved slot even with the pass. Roma Pass advises booking at least 10 days ahead, 20 in high season; the Colosseum releases slots a month ahead at most. If you travel with children, adults holding the pass must also book the kids' free Colosseum tickets online.
- Some sights entirely. The Capuchin Crypt, for example, states plainly that it doesn't accept the Roma Pass.
Is it worth it?
Do the sums. Add up the full price of the two most expensive sites you'd visit anyway, add what three days of bus and metro tickets would cost you, then subtract €62.90. If you're staying in the historic centre and walking everywhere, the transport half is often wasted.
For families it rarely works. Under-18s of any nationality get into Italian state museums free. EU citizens aged 18–25 pay €2 at state sites; most other adults from outside the EU pay full price, which is where the pass can help. Children under 10 ride public transport free with a paying adult. There's no discounted Roma Pass, no extension and no refund, and you must use it within 6 months of buying it.
Also check the calendar: on the first Sunday of the month many state museums are free for everyone, so don't plan a Roma Pass free entry for that day.
Omnia Card and the commercial passes
If the Vatican is on your list, look at the OMNIA Card sold by Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi (ORP).
- OMNIA Card 72H, €149. Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, a hop-on hop-off open bus, St John Lateran with its cloister, the Mamertine Prison, audio guides, plus Roma Pass services for adults (2 free entries and 72 hours of transport). It can only be used until 31 December 2026, so don't buy it now for a trip next year.
- OMNIA Card 24H, €69. Vatican Museums, open bus, Lateran and Mamertine Prison; no public transport.
- OMNIA Smart, €99. Vatican Museums, Colosseum with Forum and Palatine, Lateran Palace, Mamertine Prison and audio guides, usable on separate days within 12 months.
The Omnia open bus currently skips the Colosseum: that stop is suspended until further notice.
Then there are commercial passes: Tiqets sells the Roma Pass 72 hours as well as its own Rome Tourist Card, Headout sells the Go City Explorer Pass and Turbopass, GetYourGuide sells Vatican + Colosseum bundles with transport. These are not the city's card. Before buying, check whether the Colosseum and Vatican entries still need a timed reservation, and whether the included attractions are ones you'd visit anyway.
FAQ
How much is the Roma Pass?
€62.90 for the 72-hour pass and €38 for the 48-hour pass. There is no child, student or senior version.
What does the Roma Pass include?
The 72-hour pass gives 2 free entries of your choice, reduced entry to the other museums and sites in the network for 4 days, unlimited ATAC public transport for 72 hours and use of the P.Stop staffed toilets. The 48-hour pass gives 1 free entry, 3 days for museums and 48 hours of transport.
Does the Roma Pass include the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel?
No. They are not part of the Roma Pass network. The OMNIA Card 72H (€149) includes them together with Roma Pass services for adults.
Do I still need to book the Colosseum with a Roma Pass?
Yes. The Colosseum (with the Forum and Palatine) and the Borghese Gallery must be booked even with the card. Roma Pass suggests at least 10 days ahead, 20 in high season; Colosseum slots open a month in advance at most.
Can I use the Roma Pass from Fiumicino airport?
No. The Leonardo Express, the FL1 train and the airport coaches are not included. From Ciampino you can use ATAC buses 720 and 520 to the metro, which the pass covers.
Is the Roma Pass worth it for kids and teenagers?
Rarely. Under-18s enter Italian state museums free whatever their nationality, under-6s enter Rome's civic museums free, and children under 10 ride public transport free with a paying adult.
Do I need ID with the Roma Pass?
Yes. The card is personal and non-transferable; inspectors on public transport can ask to see it with a valid ID.
