Free chapel, paid museum
Visitors mix these up all the time. The Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro is inside Naples Cathedral, and entry is free. The Treasure Museum has its own entrance under the arcade to the right of the Cathedral's main door, at Via Duomo 149, and needs a ticket. It holds the jewels, votive offerings and the famous necklace of San Gennaro. If the chapel is all you want, just walk into the Cathedral.
Official prices
- Adults €15, audio guide included.
- Reduced €11: over-65s, companions of disabled visitors, university students, teachers, police, Artecard holders and other partner schemes.
- Family €30 for three people, and "family" is read loosely: siblings, aunts, uncles, nephews all count.
- Free under 12, disabled visitors, teachers with school groups, accredited journalists and licensed guides.
- Treasure + Filangieri Museum €17, audio guide included.
- Chapel audio guide only €5, for visitors who skip the museum.
Unlike some Naples sights, the rules here are relaxed: the time on your ticket is flexible as long as you come on the right day, you can change date and time by email or phone, and you can get a refund up to 24 hours before.
Official site or reseller
Tiqets, GetYourGuide and Headout sell entry with the audio guide and the combined ticket with the Filangieri Museum. Since the official ticket is already flexible and refundable, a reseller mainly helps if you want everything in one app. For a live guide in English, the museum runs private tours bookable by phone or email.
Timing your visit
Seven days a week, 9:30am–6pm, last entry 5pm. The chapel inside the Cathedral has its own schedule with a midday closure, different on weekdays and Sundays, so check it if you want both. If you're hoping to see the blood relic, the ampoules are displayed only around the Saturday before the first Sunday in May, 19 September and 16 December.
Photos are allowed inside the museum, without flash. The Cathedral is just off Via dei Tribunali, so it fits easily with Napoli Sotterranea and the Sansevero Chapel in one morning.
