Reseller prices are refreshed daily; the final price is the one on the partner's site. Resellers cost more than the official ticket because they add availability, free cancellation or services.

Free courtyards, paid museums

Sforza Castle works like a public square with museums inside. The courtyards are open every day 7am–7:30pm and cost nothing. The museums need a ticket: €10 gets you into all eight, among them the Rondanini Pietà museum with Michelangelo's last work, the Ancient Art museum, the Pinacoteca, the Musical Instruments museum and the Ancient Egypt gallery.

The ticket is valid all day, with one entry per section. You can do the Pietà in the morning, have lunch, and come back for the paintings, but not re-enter a section you've already seen. Last entry to each section is at 4:30pm; turn up at 4pm and you'll rush.

No need to book: the ticket desk is fine. Even free visitors need a ticket, though (choose "free admission" when buying online).

Discounts: read the small print

Under-18s go free whatever their nationality. The €5 reduction is narrower than it looks: it covers EU citizens aged 18–25 (non-EU only where there's reciprocity), over-65s and university students, with ID. The first Sunday of the month is free for everyone, and the second Tuesday is free for anyone up to 25.

Battlements, audio guide and tours

The Panoramic Battlements walk follows the sentry paths along the walls: a separate €10 ticket (€5 reduced), museums not included. It runs Tuesday–Sunday until 5pm last entry, with groups of up to 25 going up every 20 minutes with staff.

The official audio guide is €5 from the bookshop, in English and five other languages, but it doesn't cover the Egyptian gallery. Every weekend at 11am there's an official guided tour, no booking needed: Saturday in English, Sunday in Italian, €20 including the ticket.

Resellers mainly add convenience: Tiqets and GetYourGuide sell entry with a digital audio guide on your phone, plus guided tours built around the Rondanini Pietà or paired with the Last Supper.

Before you go

Leonardo's painted Sala delle Asse is closed for restoration, so don't come just for that. Individual rooms sometimes close at short notice; the castle's Notices page lists them.

Museums are closed on Mondays, plus 25 December, 1 January and 1 May. Metro M1 (red) to Cairoli or Cadorna, or M2 (green) to Lanza or Cadorna.
