Milan Cathedral & Rooftop Tickets

Duomo di Milano · terraces by stairs or lift · every ticket valid 2 days

A Duomo ticket costs €10 and gets you into the cathedral and the Duomo Museum; the rooftop is a separate ticket, €16 by stairs or €18 by lift. If you want both, a combo (€22 stairs, €26 lift) is cheaper than two tickets. You don't have to book, but buying online saves the ticket-desk queue.

All tickets online

Reseller prices are refreshed daily; the final price is the one on the partner's site. Resellers cost more than the official ticket because they add availability, free cancellation or services.

Two sights, two tickets

The Duomo is really two visits: the cathedral (with the Duomo Museum thrown in) and the rooftop terraces. The €10 ticket covers only the inside. If you just want the view, buy a rooftop ticket; if you want both, buy a combo, which costs less than the two separately.

Ticket Full Ages 6–18
Duomo + Museum €10 €5
Rooftop only, stairs €16 €8
Rooftop only, lift €18 €9
Combo Stairs (Duomo + rooftop by stairs) €22 €11
Combo Lift (Duomo + rooftop by lift) €26 €13

The reduced rate is about age, not nationality: it covers anyone aged 6 to 18, wherever they're from. Adults pay full price, EU passport or not. Children up to 5 are free, and so are disabled visitors with one companion.

The part most visitors miss: every ticket is valid for 2 days from the date you choose. Do the cathedral on your first morning and the rooftop the next evening, on the same ticket.

Stairs or lift?

The lift costs €2 more (€4 on the combo). Take the stairs if a long climb doesn't bother you; take the lift if you'd rather spend your energy walking around on top. The rules ask for comfortable shoes on the terraces, so leave the heels at the hotel.

In some periods there's also a Fast Track: €28 for the lift, or €32 for a combined ticket with cathedral, museum and archaeological area. It is sold online only and runs seasonally, so don't count on it.

Official site or reseller?

The official box office is ticket.duomomilano.it, and it's the cheapest way in. The cathedral's own website warns about unaffiliated sites selling tickets it can't vouch for, and publishes a list of authorised resellers. Tiqets, GetYourGuide and Headout are on it, so buying there is safe; you pay more, but often get free cancellation or a guide.

A reseller makes sense when:

Before you join the line

There's a security check at the door: empty your pockets and open your bag. Suitcases, helmets and glass items are not allowed, and large bags are discouraged. If you're coming straight from the station, leave your luggage first.

The dress code is real. No sleeveless or low-cut tops, no shorts, no miniskirts, no hats inside the cathedral. In summer carry a light scarf or shirt to throw over your shoulders.

The free door you may see people using (north door of the façade) is for worshippers coming to pray, not a free way into the visit.

Hours and timing

Cathedral and terraces are open to visitors every day 9am–7pm, last entry 6pm. The Duomo Museum, included in your ticket, is closed on Wednesdays. Hours can change for services and events, so check the day before.

Our routine: cathedral in the morning, rooftop late afternoon when the marble warms up in the low light. Give yourself a good hour and a half for both. La Scala is on the other side of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, so it fits into the same morning.
