Two different tickets: the monument and the opera

The Arena is run as a civic monument by the city of Verona's museums. The summer opera is run by a different body, the Fondazione Arena. That means two separate tickets: a daytime entry to see the Roman amphitheatre, and a seat for an evening performance. One never covers the other.

For the daytime visit, the official sales channel is verona.midaticket.it. Many guides still send you to museiverona.com, but that site now only shows a "not in service" notice. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 7pm, last entry 6.30pm. Mondays are closed, which catches out a lot of people on a long weekend.

Is the Verona Card worth it?

The Verona Card went digital on 1 September: a named QR code on your phone. Prices are €29 (24 h) and €32 (48 h) without buses, or €33 and €38 with ATV city buses. It covers the Arena, Lamberti Tower, Juliet's House and courtyard, Castelvecchio, the Roman Theatre and Archaeological Museum, the Maffei Lapidary Museum and the main churches, including San Zeno and the Duomo.

Rough maths: Juliet's House alone is €12 for the full route, so Arena plus Juliet plus one more museum or church and the card usually pays for itself. If you're passing through for an afternoon and only want the Arena, buy the single ticket.

Resellers: Tiqets bundles the Verona Card with Arena entry and an audio guide; Headout and GetYourGuide sell fast-access entry and guided tours. They cost more than the official channel, but you get English-language support, easier cancellation and, on tours, someone who explains what you're looking at.

Summer: opera nights and daytime closures

From April to October the Arena is a working theatre. The stage and sets stay in place and the amphitheatre isn't fully open to visitors. On show days the daytime visit closes early; in mid-August the city shut it at 5pm on several days in a row. If you want the empty stone bowl without scaffolding, come between November and March.

The Arena di Verona Opera Festival runs from 11 June to 11 September 2027. Book those seats on the Fondazione Arena's site or through a reseller; GetYourGuide sells opera tickets too, which helps if you want English checkout and support.

Getting there and what to look for

The Arena stands on Piazza Bra, a straight walk from Verona Porta Nuova station up Corso Porta Nuova. Plan about an hour inside. Climb to the top rows for the view over the rooftops, then walk the inner arcades to see how the crowds got in and out. Outside, look up at the "Ala": it is all that remains of the outer ring, which was quarried for stone to build the city walls around 500 AD.

The city lists the Arena as accessible for visitors with disabilities. The stone tiers are steep and uneven, so wear proper shoes.
