Two tickets, one pass
San Gimignano's sights are run as two blocks, each with its own ticket:
- Civic Museums, €10 (€8 for ages 6–17, over-65s, groups of 20+ and schools). The Palazzo Comunale with the Dante Hall, the art gallery and the Torre Grossa, plus the Santa Chiara complex and the church of San Lorenzo in Ponte.
- Collegiata complex, €7 (€4 for ages 6–18 and students). This is the Duomo, frescoed from wall to wall, together with the Sacred Art Museum. An audio guide comes with the ticket.
The San Gimignano Pass joins them for €15 and lasts three days. Separately you'd pay €17, so it saves €2. For kids it's a wash: the €12 Junior pass equals the two reduced tickets added up.
The over-65 reduction at the Civic Museums has no EU condition. Under-6s go free at both, as do disabled visitors with a companion. Reductions are checked at the desk, so carry ID.
No need to book
Tickets are sold at the museum desks. Buying online through the Opera Laboratori shop adds €1 per ticket, which only makes sense if you want everything settled before you arrive. Tiqets also sells the San Gimignano Pass, at a higher price.
Hours, and the winter gap
The Civic Museums open 1 April–31 October from 10 am to 7:30 pm (last entry 7 pm), 1 November–31 March from 11 am to 5:30 pm (last entry 5 pm), and over the holidays, 26 December–6 January, 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. Closed on Christmas Day.
The Collegiata, November to March, opens Monday to Saturday 10 am–5 pm and Sundays 12:30–5 pm, last entry 4:30 pm. Services can change the hours at short notice.
Planning a January or February trip? The Collegiata closes from 16 January to 15 February. The Palazzo Comunale, with the Torre Grossa and art gallery, is shut from 11 January to 28 February 2027; only Santa Chiara and San Lorenzo in Ponte stay open, on a special €6 ticket, and the pass isn't sold.
Making the day work
The Palazzo Comunale stands on Piazza del Duomo right next to the Collegiata, so both tickets are used within a few steps. Two and a half hours covers the Duomo, the tower and the gallery; the rest of the day is for the streets.
Without a car, the day trips from Florence sold by GetYourGuide and Headout usually pair San Gimignano with Siena and a Chianti wine tasting. Check whether the Duomo or tower ticket is included; some only give you free time in town.
