Vittoriano tickets: lift and rooftop terrace

Free part, paid part

The big white monument on Piazza Venezia is partly free. You can climb the steps, stand at the Altar of the Fatherland and watch the guard change at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, every hour, without a ticket. The main garden of Palazzo Venezia is free too.

You need the single VIVE ticket for the rest: the glass lifts and the Terrace of the Quadrigae, the Sommoportico, the Risorgimento Museum and the Palazzo Venezia museum. It costs €18. The €5 reduced rate is only for EU citizens aged 18 to 25, so bring a passport or ID card if you're claiming it. Under-18s of any nationality and disabled visitors are free. The ticket is valid for seven days with one entry per site, so you can do the terrace in the evening and Palazzo Venezia later in the week.

Do you need a reseller ticket?

Not really, and it's worth being straight about it. There is no official "elevator only" ticket; the lift is part of the standard ticket. Reseller products sold as "glass elevator", "panoramic terrace" or "rooftop + Palazzo Venezia" are built on that same entry, sometimes with an audio guide app or a map added. Tiqets, GetYourGuide and Headout charge more than the official price. What you get for it is an English mobile ticket bought in advance and, on some products, flexible cancellation. The official desk needs no booking, so if you don't need flexible cancellation, buying there does the same job.

Timing

Everything is open daily from 9:30am to 7:30pm. Terrace last entry is 7pm, but the ticket desk inside the monument (on the Terrazza Italia level) stops selling at 6:45pm. For a winter sunset over the Forum, buy your ticket first and go up later. On free first Sundays expect a longer wait for the lifts.

Before you go

• It's a national memorial: dress and behave accordingly, and eat only in the café.
• No tripods, flash or selfie sticks.
• Toilets are free with the ticket via QR code; otherwise they cost €1.
• The Capitoline Hill and the Imperial Fora are right next door, and the Mamertine Prison is a short walk away on Clivo Argentario.
