Two mornings a week

The number one mistake is turning up on a Tuesday. Palazzo Colonna is a private palace, still the family's home, and it opens to the public only on Friday morning and Saturday morning, holidays included. Other days you can only get in on a private exclusive visit, priced on request with a minimum of 10 people.

The entrance depends on the day: Saturday is Via della Pilotta 17, Friday is Piazza SS. Apostoli 66. It's a short walk from both Trevi Fountain and Piazza Venezia.

Saturday: short or full route

Saturday is self-guided, from 9:15am to last entry at 1:15pm. Two routes:

The audio guide is €5 extra and runs in your phone's browser after scanning a QR code, so bring earphones and a charged battery. Children up to 12 go free (two per paying adult). There are no EU-citizen discounts here: it is a private collection with its own price list, and the only reduced rate is for FAI members.

Friday: guided only

On Friday mornings the full route is guided only: about two hours, €35. English tours start at 9:30 and 10:00. Book by phone (+39 06 6784350), email or Ticketone. If your Italian art history is rusty, this is the better morning to go.

Booking direct or with Tiqets

The palace sells by phone and email, through Ticketone and, on Saturdays, at the desk. Tiqets lists a Colonna Gallery ticket, handy if you want a mobile ticket in English and a fixed plan. Before paying, check which route and which day it covers. The palace notes that it isn't responsible for tickets resold at a mark-up by other intermediaries.
