What you're actually buying

Cinecittà is a working film studio, not a theme park. What you visit is Cinecittà si Mostra: exhibition routes in two historic studio buildings (the history of the studios since 1937, original costumes, interactive rooms on directing, sound and green screen) plus the grounds with the giant Venusia head from Fellini's Casanova. Next door is the MIAC, the Italian museum of film and audiovisual media, with its own ticket.

The Ancient Rome set: weekends only

The set is what most people come for, and the timing trips people up. The guided tour of the Ancient Rome set runs only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, following the calendar Cinecittà publishes. On weekdays you get the exhibitions and the grounds, not the set. If your trip is Monday to Friday, adjust expectations or move the visit.

Cinecittà sells online through TicketOne and at the desk; if online slots look full, it asks you to email visit@cinecitta.it. Tiqets lists a Cinecittà si Mostra ticket with instant confirmation, handy if you want a mobile ticket. Before you buy, check what it includes and whether the set tour runs on your date.

Hours and getting there

Open daily except Tuesdays, 10am–6pm, but the ticket desk closes at 4:30pm. Also closed 23, 24 and 25 December and 1 January.

Take metro line A to Cinecittà; the historic gate is at Via Tuscolana 1055. There's no parking inside the studios, but there is an ATAC underground car park nearby. From Fiumicino airport: Leonardo Express to Termini, then metro A.
