Reseller prices are refreshed daily; the final price is the one on the partner's site. Resellers cost more than the official ticket because they add availability, free cancellation or services.
How the ticketing works
The Aquarium of Genoa prices tickets like an airline. The official site quotes an adult fare "from €26" for a Fixed Date ticket bought online, and the figure rises as the day sells. Turn up at the desk without a ticket and the adult price is €34. The aquarium's own advice is blunt: the earlier you buy, the less you pay.
There are two official formats:
- Fixed Date: you choose the day and time slot when you buy. No changes, no refunds. Cheapest option.
- Open Flexi: from €38 per adult, valid for a year. You book your slot later and can change it once, up to two hours before entry. Worth it if you're watching the weather or relying on a cruise schedule.
Either way, a booked slot is compulsory, so an Open Flexi ticket still needs a time reserved before you show up. Tickets are not in your name, so you can hand one to someone else if plans change.
Aquarium only, or a combo?
The single ticket covers the aquarium. Next to it on the Old Port, run by the same company, are the Bigo panoramic lift, the Biosphere (a glass sphere holding a small rainforest) and the City of Children. The official PianetAcquario combo (Aquarium + Bigo + Biosphere) starts at €37 per adult; only take it if you actually want the Bigo ride.
The Galata Sea Museum, with the Nazario Sauro submarine, is a separate museum with its own ticketing. Tiqets and GetYourGuide sell it bundled with the aquarium, which saves you two queues on one day. Similar bundles exist with the Lanterna lighthouse and Columbus's House.
Official site or resellers
Buy early on the official site and you'll usually get the lowest fare. Resellers tend to cost a bit more than that floor, but they may still have stock when the official price has jumped, and many offer free cancellation (check each product), which the official Fixed Date ticket never does. The lunch tickets from GetYourGuide and Headout include a meal inside; there's a restaurant on the deck of the Nave Blu and a fast-food bar about halfway round, and you can't eat or drink along the tanks.
Discounts here are not EU-only: the reduced fare covers over-65s, military personnel and disabled visitors with documentation. A companion of a visitor with 100% disability enters free, but must collect that ticket at the desk with the certificate, even if you bought online.
Timing your visit
Allow two and a half hours. The route is one-way and there's no re-entry, so plan lunch before or inside.
Hours follow a day-by-day calendar. On quiet weekdays the doors open at 10:00 and last entry is 17:30; at weekends and in busy periods it's 9:00 with last entry 18:00, and some dates stay open until 22:00. Last entry is two hours before closing, not thirty minutes, which catches out people who book the final slot.
Getting there
The aquarium sits on Ponte Spinola in the Porto Antico. From Genova Piazza Principe station it's a 10–15 minute walk, or a short metro ride to San Giorgio. From Brignole, the metro towards Brin also stops at San Giorgio. If you're driving, the aquarium car park has 167 spaces and can't be booked.
There's a staffed cloakroom that takes luggage for a small per-item fee, so a day trip between trains works fine. Photos are allowed without flash. Pets are not admitted, except guide dogs. The building is step-free and pushchair-friendly.
